Allium cepa, commonly known as onion, is a biennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Amaryllidaceous family. It is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. This genus also contains several other species variously referred to as “onions” which are cultivated for food.

Onions can be cooked in just about every possible way as well as used to spice up any dish, but in addition to its culinary uses, it is highly valued for its medicinal properties and nutritional value
